Frequently Asked Questions
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment or a process through “talking” with a licensed mental health professional in an attempt to understand and resolve human behavior that may have led to a mental health diagnosis or significant distress in one’s life that is negatively impacting daily life functioning.
I offer a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation and can answer questions that you may have about telepsychology. Telepsychology is the ability to securely videoconference or meet with me virtually for psychotherapy sessions. There are some benefits to telepsychology which include eliminating location, traffic or weather as barriers to treatment. Additionally, virtual psychotherapy sessions remove any concern one may have entering or leaving a mental health practice and you may feel more comfortable initially meeting in a space that is familiar and comfortable to you rather than the therapist’s office.
- Psychologists are trained to conceptualize human behavior from evidenced based theoretical models and then use evidenced based interventions that stem from these models to implement change. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a model that suggests your thoughts, feelings and actions/behavior are connected and by focusing on one or more of these will result in positive change in the others. CBT also focuses on our thoughts and feelings of ourselves, others and the world around us.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or ACT is another theory that stems from CBT and uses mindfulness and values-based techniques to increase awareness and commit to making changes that are meaningful to that individual.
All information obtained through forms and within our sessions is kept confidential.
